This is a relatively recent initiative where local groups organise scenic walks and visits to smiths, homesteads, traditional healers, caves etc. - and provide visitors with a local guide. The profits are used for local development activities.

Kahawa Shamba (Swahili for coffee farm) is a tourism project that was started by the coffee producers together with KNCU (Kilimanjaro Native Cooperative Union). KNCU is a union made up of 60,000 small scale coffee farmers who are organized in 67 rural cooperative societies on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The Union is certified by Fairtrade. Kahawa Shamba provides coffee farmers with additional income. All expenditures on tours, meals and overnight stays will remain in the local communities.
